MIRPURKHAS, March 27: The EDO, Health, Mirpurkhas, Dr Illahi Bux Soomro, has initiated an inquiry against the doctors and other hospital officials for allegedly taking bribes from newly-appointed teachers to issue medical fitness certificates.

The complainants informed the EDO that the officials concerned at the Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas, issued certificates to teachers after receiving bribes from them.

The EDO summoned the RMO, Asghar Arain, Clerk Mohammed Usman and other officials.

Nazeer Detho, chairman, Para Medical Staff Association, unit Civil Hospital, while recording his statement alleged that Rs200 to Rs300 were received as bribe from a teacher on March 21 for issuing fitness certificates. At least 200 teachers had been issued fitness certificates in one day alone, he added.

He claimed that he informed Faqeer M. Baloch, civil surgeon, Civil Hospital, about the situation and requested him to stop this illegal practice. But the surgeon did not pay any heed to his request and scolded him for interfering in the affairs of other departments.

RMO Dr Arain could not provide any satisfactory answers to the inquiry officers.

One of the officers told newsmen that the inquiry report would be completed within two days. He added that he would have to record the statements of some more officials.

ARRESTED: At least 20 growers have been booked by the Shadi Palli police for stealing water and attacking irrigation officials on Wednesday.

Abdul Ghani, Darogha of the Sohrab Shakh, had lodged an FIR with the Shadi Palli police and accused growers Ali, Ishaque, Qasim, Sardaro and 16 others of stealing water by installing illegal suction pumps.

He alleged that when he warned them they attacked him and used abusive language.
