HYDERABAD, March 26: The Youm-i-Ashur, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was observed in the city and its vicinity on Monday with due respect and reverence.
No unpleasant incident was reported from any part of the district.
However, in separate incidents, an mourner died while hundreds of others received injuries during mourning processions.
Eighteen processions were taken out from Qadam Gah Maula Ali that culminated at Karbala Dadan Shah.
The main procession, led by the Anjuman-i-Haideri, crossed their specified routes against the scheduled time on which the Zila Nazim and DPO asked the organizers of the processions to accelerate the speed of the processions so that the route could be cleared for tazia processions.
The procession ended at 3.30 pm which followed the arrival of tazia processions from Tailak Charhi.
The entire route was monitored by close circuit televisions at a control room.
All the lanes and streets connecting the main station road right from Qadam Gah to Karbala Dadan Shah were closed by the police.
One person, Abdullah Kachi, 75, died of excessive bleeding due to matam at Bakra Mandi.
Several organizations, including the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Welfare Association and other social welfare organizations set up their medical camps and provided first aid to the seriously injured people.
