Published March 19, 2002

SWABI, March 18: Hawaldar of Swabi police station was shot dead by some unidentified attackers in his native town Kalu Khan on Sunday night.

Police said deceased Laiq Shah was on his way for Isha prayers to a nearby mosque on Sunday, when some attackers opened fire at him with Kalahnikov, killing him on the spot.

The killers fled under the cover of darkness, though some residents of the area attempted to catch them.

Police sources said the murderers looked like the Afghan refugees. Reason behind his killing is still unknown.

Some police officials stated that as Shah had played a dominant role in the arrest of many criminals, therefore, the killing might be a retaliation.

An FIR has been registered against the murderers.
