KARACHI: City Council meets today

Published March 18, 2002

KARACHI, March 17: The City Council will meet on Monday to discuss and approve its revised budget of different departments of the Karachi City District Government.

The 10-member committee which the council had earlier formed to sort out the differences that had cropped up among its members over the approval of the revised budget, will place its report before the house for its approval.

The Rs549 million first excess and surrender of the defunct KMC’s 2001-2002 budget was initially presented in the City Council in its March 4 session, but was deferred till Monday’s session, after a number of its members had demanded that over Rs670m that had been shown as excess in the 2001-2002 budget be equally distributed among union councils for carrying out development works, such as repair of roads, provision of street- lights, and this be approved by the house in the interest of the people.
