KARACHI, March 16: The fishermen action committee has demanded immediate termination of the Balochistan Sea Ordinance because, what the committee called, it has become a bone of contention between the fishermen communities of the two provinces.

The committee at a meeting here urged that effective measures be taken to restraint the officials of Balochistan Coastal Development Authority from extracting “extortion money” from Karachi-based trawlers.

Through a resolution, it said the task of patrolling in Makran coast be handed over to the Maritime Security Agency instead of Balochistan Fisheries Department officials.

The committee decided to continue its protest till all its demands were met.

An official of the Fishermen Cooperative Society confirmed that protest by a section of fishermen continued despite the fact that the harbour’s channel had been cleared and opened for free boat movement.
