KARACHI, March 16: The Pakistan People’s Party will show its political strength on April 4, while observing the 23rd death anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, to send a message to the regime that movement for the restoration of democracy under Benazir Bhutto cannot be stopped.

The PPP took the decision in a meeting of the central office-bearers, which was chaired by its vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim at Bilawal House on Saturday.

According to a press release of the party, acting secretary-general Raza Rabbani condemned the statment of General Pervez Musharraf in Tokyo, in which he had said that Benazir Bhutto would not be allowed to participate in the elections.

He said efforts of the regime to keep Ms Bhutto out of political mainstream and seek continuity through anti-democratic measures, like the suggested referendum and constitutional changes, were bound to fail.

The meeting, which was held to discuss arrangements for the April 4 programme, also condemned, what it said, high-handed method of the government in stopping a peaceful rally of the party against construction of Greater Thal Canal.
