GUJRANWALA, March 15: The CIA on Friday arrested two drug traffickers and seized a huge quantity of hashish and opium worth Rs515 million from their possession at Noha Singh, Tetley.
Talking to newsmen, SSP Aslam Tarin said he had received information that some drug peddlers were going to smuggle narcotics by a car in Tetley area.
He said the CIA were directed to conduct a raid who arrested Sajid Nawaz alias Gogi of Qila Nau Singh village and Mazhar Khan of Jamrood with 12 maund and 10 kg hashish worth Rs15 million and 27 kg opium valuing Rs500 million. Police also recovered two 30 bore pistols, a 223 bore American rifle, a 12 bore pump action shot gun and 200 cartridges from their possession. The narcotics was packed in 513 different packets, he said.
The SSP said police also seized the car with fake number (LHX-5313), green plate and blue revolving light.
GEPCO: The local Electric Power Company (Gepco) City Circle on Friday organized a forum to listen to the employees’ grievances and resolving their problems.
Superintending Engineer Shaikh Phool Muhammad listened to the problems of the Gepco employees and issued directive to resolve these.
He assured the visitors that department’s doors would remain open to redress their problems.
ARRESTED: The CIA staff police on Friday claimed to have arrested 39 proclaimed offenders, 26 court fugitives and seven gamblers with stake money and illicit arms.
A police spokesman said all the POs had been involved in dozens of cases of dacoity, robbery and other heinous crimes and were wanted to police for quite a long.
He said the team also caught seven gamblers and recovered Rs750,000 stake money from their possession.
Investigation is underway.
DISTRICT ADMN: The district administration has declared 21 places sensitive and deployed heavy police contingent there to maintain law and order during Muharram.
This was stated by district police chief Muhammad Aslam Tareen while talking to newsmen here on Friday.
He told them that around 1,200 majalis would be held while 500 processions would be taken out in the district.
The police had beefed up security at all sensitive places, including mosques, imambargahs, crowded areas, etc, to avoid any eventuality, he said, adding peace committees at district, tehsil, city and town levels had already been constituted.
