LAHORE, March 9: Police recovered a live bomb from a Tajpura Scheme plot on Saturday.

A passer-by spotted an unattended box lying in the plot and informed the police. Bomb Disposal Squad defused the bomb in the presence of police and Civil Defence officials.

Squad in charge Muhammad Aslam told newsmen that the half kilogramme bomb was a local-made time device. It was packed in a walkman-like box. “The device has been sent for a chemical laboratory test,” he said.

Cantonment police SP Dr Usman said it was a sabotage attempt “to create panic ahead of Muharram.” The bomb had been thrown some meters away from a railway line.

The SP said that the time device of a washing machine was used in the bomb and a battery of a motorcycle had been planted as detonator. The bomb would have started functioning once somebody touched it.
