LAHORE, March 6: Plainc lothesmen were deployed on Wednesday at theatres in the city and other parts of the Punjab to prevent organizers from arranging dances.

The action has been taken as a part of a campaign launched against the theatres by the police on the instructions of the Punjab governor against ‘obscenity’.

About three dozen performers, dancing girls, producers and organizers were arrested from Lahore theatres and scores of others from different cities of the province late on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, about 31 of the performers, including Mastana, arrested from Lahore secured bails on Wednesday.

Police declared film actress Nargis and her sister Deedar absconders as they reportedly escaped from one of the theatres raided on Tuesday.

A police official said raids would only be conducted in case any violation was reported. The organizers have been warned of strict action on violation, he added.
