NEW DELHI, March 2: India’s second successful test firing of an indigenous cryogenic rocket engine was carried out at ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Center in Mahendragiri, near Nagercoil in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, ISRO officials said.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) carried out the first test on Feb 9, said media reports on Saturday.

Following the first successful test, it was decided to increase the thrust of the engine in stages; it was tested for 40 seconds with 100 per cent success, sources said.

During the first trial, “hot test” to estimate the thrust of the engine was successfully tested for 10 seconds. The thrust generated was estimated at seven tons, they said. During the next stage, the testing time would be increased to 200 seconds, the officials said.—NNI
