PO shoots witness to murder

GUJRANWALA, Feb 25: A proclaimed offender shot dead an eyewitness and injured his nephew on Monday.

Riaz and his brothers of Ladheywala Warriach village were involved in a murder case. Riaz remained at large while his brothers were handed down life term. They wanted eyewitness Farasat Ali not to depose against them.

Farasat and his nephew Abid Ali were on their way to village from sessions court when they were attacked near Garjakh locality by Riaz. Farasat died on the spot while Abid was removed to the Civil Hospital in critical condition.

Garjakh police have registered a case and are investigating.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was shot dead while her husband and co-wife sustained bullet injuries when two people attacked them over a minor issue on Monday.

Accused Tawakkal had a money dispute with his former driver Munawar while deceased Muhammad Sharif was a mediator. Tawakkal went to Sharif in Ghulshan Colony and insisted that Munawar should be called to settle the dispute. Sharif’s failure to locate Munawar infuriated the accused.

Later, Tawakkal along with his accomplice Mazhar Iqbal attacked on Sharif’s house and opened indiscriminate fire on him as a result of which his wife Hamida died on the spot. Sharif and his second wife Nargis sustained serious injuries.

Hamida was the mother of six children. Her body was handed over to the family after autopsy.

Sharif’s neighbours caught both the accused and handed them over to Civil Lines police.

CASE REGISTERED: Two police officials, including an assistant sub-inspector, were booked by Baghbanpura police on the charge of misplacing an official rifle.

ASI Zulqarnain and Constable Tahir Mahmood were on patrol duty. They misplaced the official rifle. They could not reply satisfactorily when questioned.
