MINGORA, Feb 8: The Swat valley is in the grip of severe cold, and two-day’s snowfall has created problems for the people.

Elected representatives of Swat remained stranded at Malam Jabba for over five hours owing to heavy snowfall. The Nazimeen, Naib Nazimeen and councillors had gone to the mountainous area on a tree plantation drive.

Swat District Nazim Dr Mehboobur Rehman declared emergency on the spot. He directed the heads of different departments to send ambulances and police personnel to help out the stranded people.

Police Senior Superintendent Muhammad Zakria claimed that the police had taken prompt action for the people’s safety.
