SANGHAR, Jan 28: The district police officer told the session of Sanghar District Council held here the other day that each third resident of the district was supporting bandits.

A member Chaudhry Asim condemned the DPO’s remarks and said that the people of Sanghar were law abiding and very few might be helping the criminals.

If police wanted to arrest them, they would help the police, he added.

Shahid Thaheem moved a resolution demanding safe return of Benazir Bhutto and withdrawal of cases against her.

The district Nazim Roshan Din Junejo said that the district council had nothing to do with the PPP leader and regretted that some members having political motives were presenting unnecessary resolutions.

Raja Shahid, Syed Ihsan Ali Shah, Shahid Thaheem, Dr Karpal Das, Mohammad Hassan Chandio, Faisal Wassan and others also spoke on the occasion.

They complained about non-availability of furniture in their offices, law and order, and shortage of irrigation water.

They also complained against police, education, irrigation, highways, revenue, other departments and the ADBP.

The DCO, Abdul Rehman Tareen, said that armed licenses would be issued after scrutiny.

He said that any officer who misbehaved or disobeyed any Nazim would not be spared.

The convener of session, Naib Nazim Dr Mehmood Ahmed Rajput, warned that in future latecomers would not be allowed to attend the session.
