Published January 12, 2002

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jan 11: Senior Superintendent of Police Dera, Arif  Nawaz, has said that the district police  have   controlled the sectarian issue in the district, which had claimed at least ten people during the past year. He said sectarian violence during the last five months has remained in control.

Speaking at Press conference on Friday, he said 132 persons from various sections involved in sectarian clashes had been arrested irrespective of their status and 66 more had been detained as preventive measures, which has brought the decline in the incidence of sectarian crimes.

He told the newsmen that during the past year, a number  of dacoities, robberies, burglaries and theft were remarkably less than the year 2000.

He said the culprits behind the robberies on Dera-Bannu Road were arrested and a gangster, Roza Din of village Bahadri with Babaray of village Muazzam were arrested.

One Kalashnikov and one pistol had been seized from them.
