Exporters availing DTRE scheme: CBR

Published January 2, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has clarified that majority of the exporters and textile industries have opted for the Duty and Tax Remission for Export (DTRE) scheme.

The DTRE rules had been widely welcomed by exporters, and 182 exporters were availing the facility under the scheme, said member direct taxes and CBR official spokesman, Vakil Ahmed Khan in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

Rejecting the impression that only 20 exporters had opted for the DTRE scheme published in a section of the press, Mr Khan said that this impression was totally baseless as majority of exporters had already hailed this scheme.

The spokesman said that the system of No-Duty No-Drawback was evolved on the demand of the major exporting companies.

Similarly, the scheme had received an equally favourable response from textile industries, he said. “About seventy textiles manufacturers have registered themselves under the scheme, and 150,000 bales of lint cotton have been purchased by the spinners without payment of sales tax under the DTRE scheme.”

Mr Khan said that the problem of input adjustment/refund of sales tax paid on utilities and services was in the knowledge of the CBR.

The spokesman said, the CBR had recommended remedial steps, which were under active consideration of the government.
