FAISALABAD, Dec 12: The cooperative scam action committee has asked President Pervez Musharraf to direct the authorities concerned for the auction of movable and immovable properties of responsible persons to ensure full payment to affected persons.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, committee president Sheikh Talaat Mehmood said the victims were being paid half payments due to the criminal negligence of some government functionaries and the authorities concerned.
He said despite making all out efforts by the government, only Rs370 million out of Rs600 million had so far been paid to the victims while a majority of them were still waiting for their turn even after a decade.
FINED: At least 26 more butchers were fined by Tehsil Municipal Administration’s special teams for selling substandard meat and beef in various parts of the city on Wednesday.
On the direction of city Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, TMA teams raided over 100 shops and found 26 butchers selling meat and beef in an unhygienic condition. They were fined on the spot besides sending their cases to magistrates for trial.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed while three others sustained injuries on Wednesday in an accident on the Tandlianwala-Faisalabad Road.
A speeding bus crashed into another bus coming from the opposite side in Tandlianwala. Sakeena Bibi and Amanullah died on the spot while Noor Mustafah, Shahid and Jamil sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.
CRUSHED TO DEATH: An old man was crushed to death under the wheels of a passenger train near Mansoorabad here on Wednesday.
Fazal Karim was crossing the railway track when he met an accident. Police have sent the body for post-mortem.
ARRESTED: The local police on Wednesday arrested seven persons, including two bookies, during a raid on a gambling den in Markazi Bazaar, Jaranwala.
Those arrested are Saeed Ahmed, Shafiq, Razzaq, Naeem, Farid, Naveed and Sajid. Police also recovered Rs50,000 stake money.
AUCTION: A local banking court on Wednesday ordered the auction of property and a car of an influential family of the Jhang district.
The court issued a decree against Begum Irshad Tiwana, widow of Syed Sultan Shah of Jhang, who was defaulter of Rs1.1 million to a leasing company.
