DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 5: An ASI of Sadder police on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the senior superintendent of police against a lawyer after they had scuffled in the district courtroom during the hearing of a case.

Sources said that ASI Sheikh Hamidullah was producing a widow and her daughter before the court of Civil Judge Sher Afzal Khan in connection with a case being tried under the Zina Ordinance.

Muhammad Farid Thaheem, counsel for one of the accused, asked the police officer to let him see the papers. The ASI refused. Angered, the lawyer scuffled with the ASI, snatched the papers and his official pistol and ran off.

Later, the civil judge intervened and the case papers and pistol were recovered.

TRANSFERRED: A number of station house officers (SHOs) in Dera Ismail Khan were transferred on orders of the Dera Range DIG here on Tuesday.

Sub inspector Hamidullah Bijli was transferred from Tank to Panyala as SHO, while Abdul Hai, who earlier worked at Panyala, was ordered to take over the charge of Paharpur police station. SI Malik Ghulam Abbas was transferred from Tank to Chowdhwan.

Inspector Mohammad Irshad will take over charge of the traffic police, while inspector Ashraf Zaman has been placed at the police lines.
