KARACHI, Dec 5: The Jamaat-i-Islami’s Deputy chief Prof Ghafoor Ahmad has asked the armed forces to ensure the holding of free, fair and transparent elections, transfer power to the elected representatives and return to barracks to discharge their fundamental responsibility of defending the country.

Drawing attention to the “looming threat” to the solidarity of the country in the wake of the ongoing developments in Palestine, Afghanistan and occupied Kashmir, he warned that although the US had not attained total success in Afghanistan, the attacks of anti-Islam forces had been on the rise.

Prof Ghafoor was speaking at an Iftar-dinner party at his residence in Federal B Area on Wednesday.

He said that Israel, using an incident as a justification, had started bombing not only the West bank office of Yasir Arafat and civil population in the same manner as the US had been bombing Afghanistan from Oct 7 in the wake of Sept 11 tragedy.

He said the way US warplanes had been pounding on Afghanistan for the last two months was enough to prove that the US was a super terrorist.

He lamented that attacks against Islam and Muslim countries were on the rise and the role of the OIC and other Muslim countries was no more than that of silent spectators.

The JI leader expressed the apprehension that after Afghanistan the targets of attacks would be Pakistan and its ideology.
