Double gold for Dilsher, Raheela

LAHORE, Nov 8: Dilsher Ali (Wapda) and Raheela Bano (Punjab) won  second  gold medals as two more events  were decided in the 51st  Nestle  national   cycling championship at the Lahore Canal (Harbanspura) Thursday.

Both Dilsher and Raheela earned their first  gold medals Wednesday  in  four  kilometre  and  three  kilometre individual pursuit finals.

Maintaining his form, Dilsher won the 30 kilometre individual time trial road  race. He clocked 40 minutes 55.55 seconds. Amjad Ali of Army finished second with a time of 42 minutes 38.63 seconds. Haroon  Rasheed (Wapda) claimed bronze medal when he clocked 43  minutes 11.25 seconds.

In women  section, Raheela clocked 14  minutes 59.29 seconds to win the eight kilometre individual time trial road race.

Army’s Taskeen who grabbed a gold medal on opening day  in the one kilometre time trial race, took the silver. Taskeen took 15 minutes 33.28 seconds to cross the finishing line. Her  teammate Uzma Malik stood third for a bronze  medal, covering  the distance in 15 minutes 48.46 seconds.

The 70  kilometres team road time trials for  men  at  the Lahore Canal Harbanspura is the lone event carded for Friday.

Results:

30 kilometre individual time trial road race for men:

1.  Dilsher Ali (Wapda), 40 minutes 55.55  seconds;  Amjad Ali  (Army)  42  minutes 38.63 sec,  Haroon  Rasheed  (Wapda)  43 minutes 11.25 sec.

Eight  kilometre  individual  time trials  road  race  for women:

Raheela  Bano  (Punjab),  14 minutes  59.29  sec,  Taskeen (Army)  15  minute 33.28 sec, Uzma Malik (Army) 15  minute  48.46 sec.

Meanwhile the  Sialkot  District is holding an open cycle  race  from Sialkot to Lahore on Nov 11 in connection of Allama  Iqbal birthday celebrations. The race will start from the residence of Allama Iqbal at Sialkot and will terminate at his tomb at Lahore in Badshahi Mosque.

The Pakistan Cycling Federation general council meeting will be held here tomorrow (Friday) at 5pm to finalise programme for year 2002 besides awarding the  next  national cycling championship.
