TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 14: Villagers threw traffic out of gear for some one hour on Kamalia-Chichawatni Road and demonstrated outside the Kamalia THQ Hospital against a medical officer on Saturday.

They were protesting over the death of farmer Aslam of Chak 711-GB as a result of the alleged apathy of the hospital doctor some 10 days back.

The farmer, who had reportedly sustained injuries in a road accident, was brought to hospital where the doctor on duty refused to attend to him that proved fatal for him.

Law enforcers with the help of traffic police dispersed demonstrators and restored the traffic, but they again gathered there and reached Town Municipal Administration offices where Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Khushi Muhammad Jat assured them that he would talk to the district nazim for the suspension of the negligent doctor.

Addressing a press conference later at Kamalia, a villagers’ representative Mehr Ramzan advocate announced that a complete strike would be observed after Eid in Kamalia if Dr Fatullah Shad was not suspended immediately.

He claimed that the district administration’s high-ups promised villagers that the doctor would be suspended, but he was only transferred from Kamalia to Toba Tek Singh as punishment.

ELECTION: The candidate of the tehsil nazim group defeated the district nazim group’s candidate in by-elections for the tehsil naib nazim seat on Friday.

The winner, Chaudhry Abdul Munem, got 29 votes while his rival candidate Mian Iqbal Mahmood could get only 15 votes.
