MUZAFFARABAD, July 9: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has called upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to increase the compensation money for survivors of last year’s earthquake to help them get back with their lives at the earliest.

“The amount of compensation money is inadequate, it must be enhanced. Also, shelters should be provided to the affected people through special funds because it is difficult to live in tents in the sweltering heat,” he said in a telephonic speech from London to a gathering here on Saturday evening.

Federal Minister for Housing Syed Safwanullah and some parliamentarians belonging to the MQM sat cross-legged on an eight-foot-high stage with a big portrait of Mr Hussain in the background.
