PESHAWAR, May 1: A man allegedly killed his wife when she refused to agree to sell their daughter to an Afghan in Bhana Mari area, here on Sunday. Miss Abida, 20, told police that her father Anwar Khan wanted to sell her for Rs50,000 to Afghan national Hasan Khan. Her mother Rashida Bibi opposed the move, Ms Abida said in the FIR.

Anwar Khan raised the issue on Sunday morning, but when her mother rejected the proposal, he pulled out a pistol and shot her dead, police officials said.

Afghans traditionally pay some money as `Walvar’ to the family of a girl before wedding. However, poor families misuse this custom for financial gains.

GIRL KILLED: A 10-year-old girl was killed on Sunday in a crossfire between two groups of people in Akhundabad locality of Gulbahar Colony.

Police have arrested three persons on the complaint of her brother. Police officials said Hasan Gul and Ghaffar of Akhundabad No-4 had an old dispute over a plot of land. On Sunday morning, Hasan Gul and Ghaffar, along with their accomplices, opened fire on each other on Dura Road.

A bullet hit pedestrian Rafia who died on the spot.

The police have arrested Hasan, Yousaf and their accomplice on the FIR of her brother.
