KARACHI, May 1: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the provincial government would take every possible measure to ensure a transparent system of Zakat distribution.

While presiding over a meeting of chairmen of District Zakat committees at the Chief Minister’s House, he said that only honest officials would be encouraged so that the poor and deserving people get the Zakat amount without any distinction.

He pointed out that complaints were being received from various areas of the province against the Zakat committees. He urged the chairmen of Zakat committees to perform their duties as a religious obligation.

The chief minister said those who were unable to perform their duties should step down voluntarily. He warned that in case of any report or complaint of corruption inquiry would be conducted through the anti-corruption department.

He said that every possible effort should be made to ensure that Zakat amount was disbursed among the deserving people.

After detailed discussion, it was agreed that the recommendations would be framed for making the system of distribution of Zakat, simple, transparent and effective. These recommendations would be sent to the Federal Zakat Council for consideration.

It was also decided at the meeting that in the areas where there will be law and order problem the chairmen of Zakat committees would be provided security. —APP
