LAHORE, April 30: The bay English mare, Laser Lass, who came to prominence with her record equalling performance last Sunday, seems set to win the Indus Dying and Manufacturing Cup during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday. This will be a class III handicap race to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1200m and seventh and last in racing order.

This five-year-old progeny of Ali Royal out-of-Lingdale Lass, has clocked a record sharing time of one min 24 1/5 over 1400m with Al Hattab, a talented son of US based sire, Woodman.

The mare had won the Royal Ascot Cup run on April 24, when she tormented her rivals quickening her pace with each stride to score a tremendous win.

Her close rivals could be Carolous Court and Di Young. In all, seven contenders are likely to vie for the event. The sixth and supporting event, the May Day Cup, has a big field of 11 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

This is a class four division one race to be gone over 1000m. Of them only three are on chance, namely, Brummell, Gartolocha and Repatorie.

They should fight it out. On handicap Gortalocha should have the better of other two.

Three-year-old colt, Fidel Castro, a progeny of Cry For The Clown out-of- Zahid Princess, seems a cut above in class vis-a- vis his 13 rivals in the fifth race.

High Dream and Poly Nest could be his closest rivals to pose him challenge, if there is any.

This will be a class four division three handicap race to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000m.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman Tariq Aziz has directed the club to put rupees 20,000 from its funds in the Straight Four Pool to generate more interest of the punters in this forecast of four winners in as much nominated races.

The first race will be held at 1.30pm.
