MIYAZAKI (Japan), June 4: Germany coach Rudi Voeller said on Tuesday it was not right for the media to constantly use references to World War Two in their reports about the triple world champions.

A Japanese daily had the word “Blitzkrieg” in its headline after Germany’s 8-0 win over Saudi Arabia in their opening World Cup match on Saturday, the highest total at the finals for 20 years, while the word “Panzer” appeared in a British newspaper.

“Sometimes those things are not appropriate,” said the former Germany striker, who played in three finals, lifting the World Cup in 1990.

“But I’ve been in the sport for so long that I am now used to it. From where we are, it doesn’t bother us.”

Germany will advance to the knock-out stage if they beat Ireland in their second group E match on Wednesday in Ibaraki.—Reuters
