KARACHI, April 28: A code of conduct aimed at maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the educational institutions of the city was approved at a high-level meeting held on Thursday night at the Governor’s House. The meeting was presided over by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and was attended by MMA leaders Senator Prof Ghafoor Ahmad and MPA Nasrullah Shaji, MQM leader Ms Nasreen Jalil, Faisal Sabzwari, Information Advisers Salahuddin Haider and Kanwar Naveed, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, DG Rangers, CCPO, Home Secretary, DIG Operations and other senior officials.

There was unanimity at the meeting on the need to maintain peace and a conducive academic atmosphere in the city’s educational institutions, sources said after the meeting.

The 19-point code of conduct adopted at the meeting would be implemented in cooperation with a 12-member committee. Six members of the committee would be nominated by the APMSO and the other six by the IJT. The committee, the sources added, would be helped in its work by the home and education departments and police.

The meeting also decided to appoint a senior police officer for students’ affairs. Likewise, an officer would be given the charge of students’ affairs in the education department and another officer in the home department.

Principals of all the educational institutions were directed by the meeting to contact Phones 15 and 136 in case of any untoward incident taking place in their institutions.
