LAHORE, March 5: PPP secretary-general Jehangir Badr says his party is trying to bring democracy back to the country and these efforts are called 'national conciliation' by some and a 'deal' by others.

Talking to reporters at the residence of ARD deputy information secretary Munir Ahmed Khan on Saturday, he made it clear that the PPP was not trying to get power.

Mr Badr said the PPP was struggling for the rights of people and supremacy of the Constitution. About talks, he said, they could be held both with civil and military leadership. Dialogue, he said, is the right way to settle differences.

Asked about the possibility of the PPP recognizing Gen Musharraf as president, the PPP leader said his party would take any decision keeping in view supreme national interest and the country's future. He said the party would give a rousing welcome to Mr Zardari on his arrival in Lahore on April 16.

About the possibility of extending an invitation to the ARD and the MMA to receive Mr Zardari, Mr Badr said everybody was welcome for the purpose.
