KARACHI, March 5: The Education and Literacy Department has undertaken several initiatives to help promote public-private partnerships in the education sector.

This was stated in a statement of Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) here on Saturday.

It said some of the key initiatives were being implemented through the SEF and one major project was the support to private education institutes programme. The statement said the SEF was providing support to 300 low-cost private schools in this project.

The Support to Private Education Institutes Programme (SPEIP) focuses on institutional development and quality advancement progress towards these two areas will be ensured by strengthening and improving quality of education by reviewing pedagogical practices and content.

In his regard, it was pointed out; the SEF had conducted training workshops for more than 400 teachers of 117 schools in Sindh. These trainings were cluster based covering the districts Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Dadu and Khairpur.

The training titled "Teachers as Critical Thinkers" was an attempt to initiate a process of critical thinking and introducing ways of incorporating critical thinking into pedagogical and learning practices.

The second training called "Information and Communication Technology" focused on enhancing computer skills of teachers.

Prior to this training, the SEF had distributed computers to these 117 schools and in future plans to provide infrastructural development and institutional material support to all its 300 partner schools.

To acknowledge the involvement of 117 schools in both the training programmes, a ceremony was held on March 5 in Hyderabad, whereas another such ceremony will be held in Khairpur.

In addition, this ceremony will also highlight the findings from its baseline survey conducted on the participating schools.-APP
