FAISALABAD, Feb 26: Jaranwala police claimed on Saturday to have arrested its two constables for killing two villagers and injuring four others in a 'fake encounter.'

Reports said Munawar Khan of Chak 102-GB lodged a complaint with the police that he along with his relatives was present outside his house on Friday night when his son Muhammad Saleem Nawaz and his friends riding a car came. In the meantime, another car appeared and five men wearing police uniforms intercepted Saleem Nawaz and his friends. They opened fire killing Saleem and Zafar Ayub on the spot and injuring their four friends - Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Ramzan, Rana Ihsan and Muhammad Ashfaq.

The complainant alleged that ASI Dastgir Shahzad had clashed with Saleem Nawaz, a constable of the Pakistan army, a couple of days ago during a picket duty over the issue of body search. The police team gunned down Saleem Nawaz and his friend in revenge and dubbed the incident as encounter, he alleged

On the other hand, Jaranwala police claimed that a patrolling team, headed by ASI Dastgir, intercepted a car, but the motorists accelerated the speed. The suspected car was intercepted in Chak 102-GB where two people were killed and four injured during a crossfire.

DPO Muhammad Amin Wains got registered a murder case against the policemen and ordered their immediate arrest. The police rounded up constables Muhammad Amin and Ibrar Hussain. However, accused ASI Dastgir and constables Zahid Mehmood and Tariq Mehmood are still at large.

The SP (investigation) has been appointed as inquiry officer.
