HYDERABAD, Feb 10: A team of professors, appointed by the vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, has noted that cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis have declined in Sindh.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the team organized three camps in the Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka of the Dadu district.
The team comprised Prof Rafiq Soomro, Prof Nazir Ashraf Leghari, Dr A.H. Jokhio, Dr Younis Dahar, Dr Doulat Bajaj, and Dr Pervez Iqbal. The team examined 250 cases and gave treatment to around 140 patients. The number of new cases remained low which revealed that the disease was on decline.
The team claimed that most of the cases were at "healed stage". The team provided injections and other medicines to such patients. A health education programme for awareness and prevention was also arranged.
Besides, more than 4,000 patients were examined for eye problems and about 600 major eye operations were done by senior ophthalmologist Prof Nazir Ashraf Leghari, Dr Aurangzeb and Dr Amjad Shaikh during a three-day camp. All medicines, glasses and operations were done free of cost.
