Eight of a family die in roof collapse

QUETTA, Feb 9: Eight members of a family were killed and one was injured on Wednesday when the roof of a mud house collapsed due to heavy rains in Khanozai area of Pishin district, some 120km from Quetta.

"The victims of tragic incident include parents and their six children," Tehsildar Pishin Maqbool Anwar said while confirming the incident.

The accident took place in Killi Dilsora of Khanozai tehsil in the afternoon when Kamal Khan and his family members were sitting in a room of their house. Eight persons died on the spot.

Only the 14-years-old son of Kamal Khan, Remutullah, survived the accident and received serious injuries. He was taken to the civil hospital Quetta. "The cause of accident was heavy rains in the area," levies officials told Dawn when contacted on telephone. They said many other houses had also been damaged in the rains.

The levies identified the dead as Kamal Khan, Bibi Fatima (wife), their three sons Bismillah Khan, Inayatullah Khan, Asmatullah Khan and three daughters Bibi Jamila, Bibi Nahida and Bibi Hameeda.

According to another report, a soldier of the Frontier Corps was also killed and three others were injured in Shela Bagh area of Qila Abdullah district when the roof of their room collapsed on Wednesday morning.
