KARACHI, Feb 7: The leadership crisis persists in the Karachi Fish Harbour, as the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fishermen Cooperative Society has been postponed once again.
The 15-member board's meeting was called on Monday to elect a new chairman and vice-chairman of the society, which has been in perpetual crisis since Aug 4 this year after the elections of seven directors, elected by the fishermen communities.
When contacted, a member of the FCS managing committee confirmed that the meeting had been postponed, but he declined to give any reason. However, it is learnt that the meeting had been put off on the directive of higher provincial authorities.
The FCS sources sited the differences among the elected directors on the nomination of vice-chairman as the main cause of postponement of the Monday's meeting.
The sources said that a nominee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, enjoying the support of majority directors, was expected to be elected vice-chairman of the society, unanimously.
