PESHAWAR, Feb 7: Two people who were accused by Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) MPA Khalid Waqar Chamkani of opening fire on him and his relatives four days ago, surrendered to police on Monday, official sources told Dawn.

Mr Chamkani had registered a case with the Chamkani police station four days ago, claiming that he was driving a car and was being accompanied by his brother, Farman Ali, and maternal uncle, Mohammad Akram, when Kinaan, son of former NWFP Assembly speaker Hidayatullah Chamkani, and his two accomplices, Khusdil and Jehangir, opened fire on them, but luckily all of them escaped unhurt.

Mr Chamkani called on the NWFP Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani, on Monday and complained to him about the police attitude, maintaing that the police were not arresting any of the people involved in the firing incident, the sources said.

The chief minister taking immediate action issued transfer orders of the station house officer (SHO) of the Chamkani police station, Ali Haider, asking him to report to the Police Line. While the SHO, Investigation, Mohammad Riaz, was transferred to the University Town police station.

Meanwhile, Khusdil and Jehangir, who were alleged to have been involved in the firing incident surrendered to the police. Kinaan, according the sources, ofobtained bail before arrest from the local court.
