KARACHI, Feb 6: The Fishermen Cooperative Society will finally elect a new chairman on Monday when its 15-member Board of Directors will meet at the Karachi Fish Harbour.

The crucial meeting of the 15-member Board had to be postponed many times since Aug 4 last when the election process got completed, due to lack of a consensus between the eight government-nominated and seven elected directors on the leadership issue.

The chairman of the FCS always comes from the nominated directors because of their majority in the Board. But according to the practice in vogue, the vice-chairman always comes from the elected side.

Efforts for a consensus candidate are afloat for the past seven months, but with no result. However, fisheries sources are optimistic that the stalemate will end on Monday with the Board finally electing a chairman and vice-chairman.
