RIYADH, Feb 5: An Indian citizen convicted of burning a compatriot to death was executed Saturday in southern Saudi Arabia, the Interior Ministry said.

Gotham Krishna had been found guilty of setting Madrasa Iqbal ablaze while Iqbal was sleeping, due to an unspecified quarrel between the two, the ministry said in a statement.

Krishna was beheaded in the southern region of Aseer, bringing the number of people beheaded in Saudi Arabia since Jan 1 to nine.

In 2004, Saudi authorities executed 35 people, down from 52 people beheaded in 2003. -APP
