LAHORE, Jan 29: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test cricketer Saleem Altaf as director cricket operations. "Saleem Altaf will be in-charge of all cricketing issues and would represent PCB at International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meetings of senior executives. He will also act as secretary to the PCB," a PCB spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the PCB has also appointed Abbas Zaidi, who is currently the incharge of the media and protocol, has been named as director board operations.

"Zaidi would be in-charge of all non-cricketing matters i.e administration, finance, marketing and media)," the spokesman said.

The PCB also announced an ad hoc committee comprising Imtiaz Ahmed, Dr Naseem Ashraf, Mueen Afzal, Ali Raza and Saleem Altaf.

PCB chairman Mr Shaharyar M Khan said that the current system would be dissolved after the implementation of the new constitution.

The chairman had made a promise of implementing the constitution by April 30, before the Senate Sports Standing Committee.

The constitution is suspended since 1999. The ad hoc committee was necessary after the treasurer Mohammad Naeem and chief executive Ramiz Raja had resigned from their posts last year, the chairman said.

He said that it had no link with the new constitution.

The chairman said that the ad hoc committee would normally meet once a month but if required, would convene at short notice to consider any specific issues. The first meeting, he said, would be held in mid of February.

He said that the appointments were proposed to the Patron-in-Chief of the board last month and now were announced after getting the approval.

He said that the advisory panel would continue to meet on a quarterly basis.
