KARACHI, Jan 29: As many as 30 teams of school students from District East have qualified for Karachi finals of the "Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee contest", which would be held on Feb 4.

According to a coordinator of the national competition, 10 teams each in three age groups (9-11, 12-14 and 15-17) have emerged as qualifiers after a two-day district competition which concluded on Saturday.

The judges belonged to the University of Karachi, Iqra University, Berlitz Language Centre and CBM, while the pronouncer was from City FM-89.

The competitions for the remaining districts, South, Central and West, would commence on Jan 30, Feb 1 and Feb 3, respectively, at the Bahria Auditorium.

The successful teams are as follows:

Age group 9 to 11: Ali's Kindergarten and Primary School, Al-Murtaza Boys, Happy Home School Gulshan), St Lawrence Boys School, The City School (Gulshan Junior V, Girls), The City School (Gulshan Junior V, Boys), The City School (PECHS Junior Girls), Toronto School of Academic Excellence, Usman Public School (Campus 4) and Usman Public School (Campus 8).

Age group 12 to 14: Aitchison Model School, Beaconhouse School System (PECHS), Beacon Light Academy, Habib Girls' School, Happy Home Secondary School (Society Campus), Happy Home Secondary Schools (Cambridge), Playhouse Secondary School, Shadman Academy, Shaheen Public School (Campus-3)and The Laurels Academy.

Age group 15 to 17: Al-Murtaza Boys, ASF Public School, Happy Home Secondary School (Society), Ibrahim Ali Bhai-Pakistan Navy Girls Secondary School, Jaffar Public School, St. Gregory's School, The American Foundation Cambridge School, The City School (PAF Chapter), Toronto Schools of Academic Excellence, and Usman Public School(Campus 8).
