PESHAWAR, Dec 4: The NWFP finance department has released about Rs6 million for its special cell established recently to take care of matters pertaining to the Water and Power Development Authority and a unit formed to monitor the implementation of the provincial reforms project.

Sources said Rs2.5 million had been released for the 'structure adjustment credit reforms monitoring unit' and Rs3.375 million for the Wapda cell.

The cell, according to the sources, has been formed to reconcile the NWFP's accounts with Wapda officials and streamline monthly payment of electricity bills on the part of the provincial government departments and their attached wings.

"It has helped the provincial government recover over Rs100 million from Wapda after making it possible for the province to prove its stand on over billing," said a government functionary.

Reconciliation of accounts led to the disclosure that the authority had over charged the province by about Rs100 million and the amount was adjusted, Wapda sources said.
