KARACHI, Nov 11: IGP Syed Kamal Shah has directed senior police officers to keep a strict watch on the organizations, as well as their members , indulged in serious offences and sectarian activities in order to check any possible act of terrorism or sectarian unrest during the Eid days.

Reviewing the intelligence agencies' plan chalked out for the occasion, the IGP issued directives for ensuring peaceful atmosphere to enable people to celebrate the Eid with peace of mind.

He called for exploiting the capabilities of police officials and other personnel for acquiring intelligence clues so that any untoward incident could be pre-empted and averted.

He emphasized the need for adopting extraordinary measures for providing security to mosques, imambargahs and the Eidgah vicinities where congregations would be held. Besides, he added, similar measures be taken to protect public places like parks, coastal areas, hotels, restaurants, playgrounds, etc., to ensure safety of visitors.

The IGP directed all TPOs to organize patrolling in mobile vans and motorcycles in the city under the security plan in such a way that places of worship and public spots remained under strict vigil.

He further directed them to arrange snap-checking at different timings and different places. He stressed that experienced officials be deployed to carry out snap-checking after they were duly briefed about the devices and substances that could be used in a possible act of terrorism.

Mr Shah issued instructions to all SHOs to ensure that no suspected article, parcel, bag, vehicle, etc., were allowed remain planted or placed on thoroughfares.

The bomb disposal squads, he said, would ensure sweeping at major parking lots and sensitive spots, including mosques and imambargahs.

Meanwhile, provincial Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui has pledged that law and order would be maintained at all costs and no one would be allowed to disturb peace in Karachi.

He stated this during his visit to Shah Faisal Colony where an armed clash on Tuesday night left two activists of an organization and a passerby dead.
