KARACHI, Nov 10: The body of a university student with apparent torture marks was recovered in the PECHS on Wednesday morning.

Police said that the victim was identified as Faraz Ahmed. An ID card was recovered from his pocket. Student of philosophy at Karachi University, 21-year-old Faraz was son of a senior columnist Baseer Naveed.

Mr Naveed told Dawn that Faraz was a bright student and besides his studies, he also used to do programmes on FM 103. On Monday night, after doing a programme on Jaun Elia, he went to his friend's place. "He used to stay at his friend's place for a day or two, it was not unusual. His friends used to visit our place in similar manner," Mr Naveed added.

On Wednesday morning, Mr Naveed came to know that a body had been found behind the building housing the radio office. As he penetrated through the crowd of onlookers, he saw the body of his son lying along the wall of Park Avenue.

"The body had torture marks on his face and back. His neck was broken, it also started decomposing fast," Mr Naveed said.

The body was immediately shifted to the JPMC. However, after lapse of three hours, the family and friends took away the body without postmortem.

"I pleaded to MLO that my son is lying outside and his body is fast decomposing. Finally, the body was shifted to the mortuary, where again the corpse remain unattended," he said.

Quoting the statement of inquiry officer Mithal, he said that it was a clear case of murder. ASP Ferozabad told Dawn that the cause of the death could not be ascertained as postmortem examination was not carried out.
