MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 7: A district criminal court here on Saturday awarded capital punishment to a convict in a murder case , besides sentencing him to ten-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 143,000, court officials said.

Mauzoon Khan had, according to prosecution, stabbed two brothers - Mohammad Farooq and Mohammad Pervez - in Kilri village two years ago.

The accused, who had an old dispute with the victims' family, was shouting abuses on their mother and when they arrived on the scene he stabbed both of them with a dagger.

Farooq died on the spot whereas Pervez suffered serious wounds and was hospitalized.

The case was first tried in an additional district criminal court, but it was transferred to the district criminal court in October by the orders of AJK Shariat Court Chief Justice Reaz Akhtar Chaudhry.

The court comprising District and Sessions Judge Azhar Salim Babar and Zila Qazi Nizamuddin heard the arguments and delivered the judgment on Saturday.
