KARACHI, Nov 4: On the directive of the federal government, collection of statistics of the Afghan citizens under UN supervision in Karachi will start from Monday.

In this regard, a meeting was held here under the chairmanship of DCO Mir Hussain Ali. It was attended, among others, by the UN high commissioner for refugees, project director and executive of the UN Repatriation Cell, EDO (revenue) of the city government, all TMOs of Karachi district and senior officials of various departments.

The meeting, after considering various steps for completing enlistment of Afghan settlements in the city in four stages, decided to take necessary measures for the purpose.

The DCO directed all concerned officials to make every effort in preparing the lists and collecting data in this regard.

The UN commissioner highlighted importance of the programme. The UNRC project director, Agha Jan Akhtar, informed the meeting that this process had to be completed by March 2005.-APP
