KARACHI, June 3: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city on Monday.

A young man died in a road accident in Ibrahim Haideri. The police said that Hazrat Lal, aged 35, was run over by a speeding vehicle while walking across the main road near Zaman Town. He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The vehicle sped away after the accident.

A cyclist, Faizan, aged 16, was crushed to death by a speeding tanker in Korangi Industrial Area. The police said that the victim was a factory worker, and was returning home after work when he met with the accident. The police impounded the vehicle, but the driver escaped.

A young man was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a speeding vehicle in Gulzar-i-Hijri.

The police said that an unidentified young man, who was in his mid-30s, was knocked down by an unknown speeding vehicle near a bus terminus. The man died on the spot. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

SUICIDE: An unidentified man committed suicide in Gharibabad on Monday.

The man killed himself by jumping down from the Gharibabad bridge. The police said that an unidentified drug addict jumped down from the Gharibabad bridge. The body lay unattended on the spot for several hours due to confusion over police jurisdiction.

Finally, the body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

CARJACKING: Seventeen vehicles — nine cars and eight motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Two motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

The police also claimed on Monday to have recovered six cars and six motorcycles in the city.

DROWNING VICTIM: The body of a young man, who drowned in the sea on Sunday, was fished out on Monday.

Edhi sources said that the body of Yousuf, aged 17, who drowned in the sea off the Gadani beach, along with three other young men, was recovered from the sea on Monday morning.

The body was recovered by lifeguards and Edhi volunteers. The Edhi Foundation handed over the body to relatives in Orangi Town.

BODY FOUND: An unidentified young woman was found dead in a graveyard in Shershah on Monday.

The police said that the trussed up body of a woman, who was in her mid-30s, stuffed into a gunny bag, was recovered from Moro graveyard in Shershah. There were torture marks all over the body. It was sent to Civil Hospital for post- mortem. After post-mortem, the body had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

The police said that a watchman, Abdul Wajid, informed them about the body.

KILLED: A young man was stabbed to death in a quarrel in Shershah on Monday.

Edhi sources said that Shafeequddin Qureshi, aged 25, was stabbed during a quarrel in a restaurant. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Sources at the hospital said that Qureshi died of excessive bleeding.
