SUKKUR, Oct 30: A high-level meeting was held at the Sukkur Barrage on Saturday to review the plan for the repair of the barrage. The repair work will be completed in four months.

The meeting was attended by irrigations authorities, repair work consultants Raza Kazmi and Arif Shaikh, Brigadier Mohammad Salik of the Frontier Works Organization and Punjab barrages' consultant Mansoob Zaidi.

Arif Shaikh of the MEW Company told the meeting about suggestions regarding the repair work of the barrage.

He said before undertaking the repair work, tests through modern technology - GPR-ERT - were needed to be carried out to know damages occurred in the structure of the barrage. The GPR-ERT is German technology and can detect damages up to 300 feet deep in water.

He said the company had submitted a proposal to authorities concerned for rehabilitation of the barrage after finding the exact location and extent of the scouring of the bed of the barrage.

KILLED: One person was killed two others were injured when two motorcycles collided on the National Highway near Khairpur on Friday night.

The man killed was identified as Ali Dino Morejo. The injured, Ghulam Nabi Lanjvani and Imtiaz Morejo, were taken to the Khairpur Civil Hospital.
