LAHORE, Oct 26: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi directed all DPOs on Tuesday to ensure implementation of the system of police stations' inspection so that the role of the lower staff in efforts to curb crime could be improved.

He was presiding over a meeting on law and order here. Chief secretary Kamran Rasool and other senior officials were also present.

The IGP briefed the chief minister on the investigation into heinous crimes in the province.

The chief minister also directed the police to improve their overall working so as to effectively check lawlessness and curb crime. He stressed the need for investigating cases on scientific lines so that real culprits could not escape punishment.

He said stern action would be taken against those found displaying weapons without caring for their rank and file. No slackness in protecting the lives and properties would be tolerated, he said.

Pervaiz Elahi said all DIGs must implement the decision about the regular monthly meetings on law and order and the situation of crime in their respective areas of jurisdiction. Detailed minutes of such meetings should regularly be sent to him and the IGP, he said.

He appreciated police for smashing organized gangs of criminals in Muzaffargarh and other cities in the province.

The IGP said intelligence and law-enforcement agencies were coordinating in the investigation of heinous crime in the province.

Earlier, talking to provincial ministers and MPAs at the Chief Minister's House, he said the administrative machinery had been activated to solve the problems of people.

He urged them to ensure people's involvement in the reforms in economic and social sectors so that they could take full benefit of the new steps. He said fundamental changes were being made in health, education, agriculture, irrigation and other sectors.

The chief minister said the government was striving to resolve the real issues confronting the people. Concrete steps were being taken to improve working of the government departments, he said, adding that many welfare-oriented development projects were being executed through the private-public participation.
