KARACHI, Oct 25: An anti-terrorism court reserved on Monday order on the bail application of the doctor brothers, who have been charged with a series of offences, including medical treatment to Al Qaeda activists and other terrorists, and for sending people to Wana for terrorist training.

Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti of the ATC-2 fixed Oct 28 for the pronouncement of the order after hearing the arguments of defence counsel Shaukat Hiyat and specially-appointed prosecutor Iqtidar Ali Hashmi, assisted by special public prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti.

The defence counsel contended that the evidence collected by the police was not sufficient to warrant conviction of his clients.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application and contended that the accused were more dangerous as they sent the people to Wana for terrorist training.

Dr. Akmal Waheed, a cardiologist, and his younger brother Dr. Arshad Waheed, a kidney specialist, are also facing the charges of financing, harbouring and treating the activists of the Jundullah. The police announced the arrest of the Waheeds on July 2, though the family claimed that they had been picked up on June 17.

According to police, some Jundullah activists, arrested for their involvement in an attack on the corps commander's convoy and other terrorist activities, stated that the doctor brothers had close links with them.

They were charged with supporting, assisting, providing different kinds of facilities, including financial help, the members of Jundullah terrorist group.

It was also alleged that the accused doctors treated the activists of the banned Jundullah Group, who were injured during an attack on a Rangers patrol.
