KARACHI, Oct 25: The death of a young woman and injuries to her fiance in a road accident at Nagin Chowgrangi on Monday sparked violence as three trucks were set on fire by the area people.

Police said a speeding truck hit a motorcycle near Nagan Chowrangi just before Iftar. After hitting Sadaf, 22, and Khalid, the errant truck driver sped towards Sohrab Goth. However, area youth chased the truck on motorcycles and intercepted it near Godhra Camp where there was a traffic jam.

The errant driver abandoned the truck and escaped. The youths set the truck (TKE-546) on fire and returned towards Nagan Chowrangi. Later, they set ablaze two more trucks (JT-6160) and (JT-4089) on their way back to Nagan Chowrangi, police said.

Police said Sadaf died before she could be rushed to the hospital. Her fiance Khalid who was injured in the accident was taken to Abbasi Hospital. Police said that the couple was returning home after Eid shopping.

A few weeks back, a similar accident at Nagan Chowrangi caused a similar flare-up during which four trucks were set on fire by the enraged youth.

An official of the Pakistan Rangers was also killed in the accident, besides several others were injured. In this particular incident, the truck/dumper driver had also resorted to firing on an agitating crowd.

In another accident, an eight-year-old boy died in a hit and run accident in Landhi on Monday. Police said Faizan was crossing road when a speeding vehicle hit him.

SHOT DEAD: The owner of an oil depot was shot dead by unknown men in Lyari late on Sunday night.

Police Khan Zeb, 40, was closing his shop in Kalri when unknown suspects opened fire on him, leaving Khan Zeb in a pool of blood. The victim diedat Civil Hospital.
