KARACHI, Oct 21: The syndicate of the Dow University will take up the issue of transfer of enrolments and responsibility of conducting examinations of various MBBS batches, already enrolled with the University of Karachi, on October 23 , said the university's vice-chancellor.

Talking to Dawn on Friday, the Dr Masood Hameed, said the emergency meeting would mainly discuss matters pertaining to transfer of enrolments from KU, and review the development so far made in this direction.

If the syndicate approved the idea of the university administration, and if the KU authorities also agreed to transferring the responsibility, about 3,000 students who had already cleared, or otherwise, different professional examinations, would be awarded DUHS degrees.

In the meantime, the KU academic council would also meet on Saturday to look into the transfer issue and decide whether it would be in the larger interest of students or not. "We will surely want that the career of students are safeguarded," said a KU council member.

A DUHS syndicate member said that normally it was the responsibility of the university enrolling the students to arrange for their examinations.

Desiring not to be named, the member said that the transfer of enrolment in bulk appeared to him as "an emotional decision" of the DUHS administration.

"It (DUHS) should go for conducting the examination of the first professional Part-A students first," he suggested, saying that such a measure would help assess the capacity of the new university as well.
