DHAKA, Oct 21: The Bangladesh Bank, central bank of Bangladesh, has frozen four bank accounts of two international organizations for suspected links with Al Qaeda or Taliban, official sources said on Thursday.

The accounts of the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation and the Benevolence International were frozen as they had been listed by the United Nations as having suspected links with Al Qaeda or Taliban. Both the organizations were registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh, while they were currently inactive.

The Bangladesh Bank found no bank accounts or registrations for the Global Relief Foundation, a third organization listed by the UN.

The bank has frozen $1,462.15 maintained by the Al-Haramain foundation and Benevolence International in four banks. The banks concerned are Credit Agricole Indosuez (currently Commercial Bank of Ceylon), Islami Bank, Al-Arafah Islami Bank and Oriental Bank.
