HYDERABAD, Oct 19: The Anjuman Tajiran-i-Sindh at a meeting held here on Monday warned the DCO of a protest movement if garbage dumps lying everywhere in the city are not removed, stagnant drainage water is not disposed of and major roads are not constructed before Eidul Fitr.

Zakir Bin Zahid presided over the meeting which reminded the DCO that during his visit to a hunger strike camp set up by the businessmen few weeks ago, he had assured them that development work would commence in the important business areas, especially Makki Shah Road, from September 15 and stagnant dirty water would be drained out.

The meeting, however, noted that even after passage of one month, the work on Makki Shah Road had not been started and dirty water had accumulated on Station Road, City College road, Sarfaraz Charhi, Latifabad and Qasimabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Turab Ali Khwaja, Ashraf Memon and others held a particular group of government officers responsible for sabotaging the nascent district government system.

They said that the elected representatives were answerable to their constituents but the officers were inciting people to launch a movement against the local bodies system.

They paid tribute to Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan for exposing the conspiracy of the officials before Provincial Adviser for Local Bodies Waseem Akhtar on his recent visit to Hyderabad.

The meeting also complimented Mr Akhtar for taking disciplinary action against the delinquent officers.

It adopted a resolution calling upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to give full powers to district and taluka nazims to carry out development works as envisaged under the law.

The meeting also demanded that the tenure of district governments be extended by one year.
